Independence Foundation Public Interest Law Fellow 2013-14

Law JD, 2013

Prior to law school, I served two years as an AmeriCoprps member in the Public Allies Program. There, I gained non-profit experience ranging from working with Delaware’s largest healthcare provider, to working for a small LGBTQ youth organization with only one full time employee. This experience gave me a background in non-profit leadership and, in part, motivated me to enroll in law school with the goal of working in the public interest field.

As a law student, I have completed a summer internship with Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. in Wilmington, Delaware for the Protection and Advocacy for Individuals with Mental Illnesses program; a Co-Op Placement with the Homeless Advocacy Project; and a Summer internship with Community Legal Services in the Housing unit, for which I continued to work with throughout the fall semester.

As an Independence Fellow I will help represent Regional Housing Legal Services’ clients as they embark on a new initiative to end chronic street homelessness in Philadelphia. This fellowship provides me the opportunity to diversify my legal skills portfolio and gain experience representing non-profit organizations in a variety of complex transactional situations.
