Each year the Equal Justice Works Fellowship competition selects qualified and passionate lawyers who have developed new and innovative legal projects that can impact lives and serve communities in desperate need of legal assistance.
Fellows receive a competitive salary (Equal Justice Works will contribute up to $41,000 annually toward a fellow's salary), generous loan repayment assistance, connections to their prominent sponsors, participation in trainings, and additional support.
Equal Justice Works Fellows have represented thousands of children, adults and families in need in communities across the country. Fellows design unique projects that serve and address a range of legal issues including domestic violence, homelessness, community economic development, immigration, civil rights, juvenile justice, employment rights, health care, consumer fraud, and environmental justice. Equal Justice Works then matches the fellow with sponsors to support their project.
As part of their application, Fellows also must have a host organization - a nonprofit organization - to be their employer. The organization's role is to provide training, supervision, benefits (health insurance required), and other support that enables the fellow to successfully carry the goals of the project.
