Three Whitaker Undergraduate Scholars!
Biomedical Engineering students Frank Chang (BS/MS ’15), Alex Valiga (BS ’15) and Reed Vennel (BS/MS ’17, PHC) received the prestigious Whitaker International Undergraduate Scholarship for research co-ops in Australia and Switzerland, and to study abroad in Singapore respectively. Congratulations!
Frank is headed to the University of Sydney, Australia. He will be conducting research in the Tissue Engineering & Biomaterials Research Unit headed by Dr. Hala Zreiqat focusing on hard tissue development and modification.
Alex will be working in the laboratory of Dr. Reinhard Dummer in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Zürich, Switzerland. While there, he will focus on the development of a screening assay to improve the diagnosis and prognosis of melanoma progression from congenital melanocytic nevi.
Reed will be studying abroad at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He has been learning Mandarin Chinese at Drexel and hopes to practice the language while he is there (Chinese is one of four official languages in Singapore).
The Whitaker International Program provides funding for U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) students and graduates to study, conduct research, or intern abroad.
