Post-Master's Certificate in Couple and Family Therapy

The 43-quarter credit Post-Master’s Certificate Program prepares students for Clinical Fellow membership status in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and fulfills the educational requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Pennsylvania. The curriculum is also developed to meet the accreditation standards for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education coursework and clinical practice guidelines. Students must graduate with a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Students cannot graduate with a final grade of B- or lower on their transcript.

All PMC students must complete four (4) quarters and 12 months continuous clinical practicum. Students must have 350 hours of direct client contact (250 of the 350 hours must be with couples and/or families); and a minimum of 100 hours of individual and group supervision (50 of the 100 hours must be focused on observable raw data; 25 of the 50 observable raw data hours must be video and/or direct observation; and 50 of the 100 hours must consist of group supervision) prior to graduation. Students should receive a minimum of 50 clinical hours per quarter of clinical practicum (including summer) in the program.

The Post-Master’s Certificate Program in Couple and Family Therapy leads to the advanced practice certificate.  This program is designed as a two-year part-time program that may completed in up to five years. An individualized plan of study is developed for part-time status students. A minimum of 43-quarter credit hours is required for graduation. Students have seven years to complete their post-master’s degree.
