  • Walnut Hill Community Farm

    Neighborhood outreach turned an old SEPTA lot into a community garden at 46th and Market streets. Some ingenuity from a group of freshman engineering students at Drexel University is helping to keep it sustainable. This summer, 11 students from a freshman design class in the College of Engineering took on the challenge of irrigating, tilling and heating the farm in order to allow for year-round growing.

  • Drexel, Powel and SLA Partner for New Public Shool

    The Philadelphia School Partnership (PSP) has awarded $215,000 to a collaboration among Samuel Powel Elementary School (Powel), Science Leadership Academy (SLA) and Drexel University. The investment from the Great Schools Fund will support planning for the expansion of Powel, a K-4 district school near Drexel in West Philadelphia, and the creation of a new middle school to serve the same neighborhood.
