Overview of Research at The ExCITe Center
A strategic initiative of Drexel University, the ExCITe Center incubates and showcases research combining cutting-edge technological expertise with creativity and artistry. The center is a cornerstone of Drexel’s planned Innovation Neighborhood, and a catalyst for unlocking the potential that can be realized by adding the arts—“A”—to traditional strengths in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics—“STEM”—to create “STEAM.” Home to a diverse array of students and faculty as well as the Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory, the Center is home to a variety of projects both in the intermediate and seed state.
A sample of research projects actively pursued currently include:
knitted sensors for fetal monitoring
machine-listening for musical robots
multi-level position tracking for live performance
Annually, a seed-funding competition is opened to kickstart novel research projects that meet the ExCITe criteria of highly multi-disciplinary and collaborative. Read about the 2012 class of projects here
