Panel Picker for SXSW EDU 2020 includes ExCITe Center staff proposals
Voting has opened for SXSW EDU 2020
August 5, 2019
Dr. Edouard (L) and Dr. Kim at SXSW EDU 2019 in March.
Starting today through Friday, August 23rd, the SXSW EDU Panel Picker to live! Votes will be counted to determine which presentations will be selected for the 2020 conference.
The ExCITe Center is affiliated with the following three panel sessions:
Arts Integration to Transform Higher Education
- Many institutions are pursuing integrations of the arts & humanities with STEM fields (STEAM education and research) through a variety of programs, courses, & centers. This panel will explore such efforts at a number of Universities across the country.
Building an Inclusive Maker Community
- Building upon the findings of Making Culture, our national study of education makerspaces, learn how we are developing community-based, inclusive-by-design, maker learning programs in the West Philadelphia Promise Zone in partnership with researchers in other locations pursuing similar efforts.
Centers for Education Innovation in Higher Ed
- Education Innovation Centers foster the development of new research, practices, and communities on and off campus. But the path to creating such Centers can be quite different for each institution. In this session, several founding directors of Education Innovation Centers will discuss the creation stories (and myths) of their efforts.
In 2018, the ExCITe Center-affiliated team of Dr. Youngmoo Kim and Dr. Kareem Edouard put their bid in with their report "Making Culture: A National Study of Education Makerspaces." (The publication can be downloaded for free on the Drexel University ExCITe Center page.) After gaining enough votes from the Panel Picker, their work was selected to be a part of the SXSW EDU 2019 conference in Austin, TX that following spring. We hope to have the ExCITe Center and Drexel University community represented in Austin again.
The Panel Picker allows for multiple different sessions to be voted on, up or down, by each individual. We look forward to seeing what panels are selected to join in SXSW EDU next year.
