Sowing the Seed Projects

May 1, 2015

It's May, which means it's time for our annual call for seed funding proposals. These are small grants for new multi-disciplinary projects to foster collaboration, both within Drexel and also with those outside the University.

Why do we think this is important? I think the essence lies in this quote by Steve Jobs. He said:

"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things."

Our seed program targets exactly these kinds of connections. We also look for projects that wouldn't be supported through traditional programs. The grants are relatively small, but they kickstart projects that can lead to greater things, and some have used their seed prototyping efforts to attract additional support. And all leave an impact by sharing their efforts with the ExCITe community, examples of which you heard earlier in this podcast.

For more information about our seed grants, please visit the ExCITe Center homepage, where you can find the call for proposals and read about past projects. The deadline for submissions is June 1st, and we're eager to hear your great ideas to better our world through Design, Technology, and Entrepreneurship.
