Construction Management’s Distinguished Advisory Council

In 2005, Drexel’s Construction Management faculty, together with key construction industry leaders from the Philadelphia region, launched the Drexel University Construction Management Advisory Council (CMAC) to strengthen Drexel’s program and broaden its reach. Through the CMAC, the University forges an alliance with its construction industry partners to provide a network of support for the program and more importantly, our students.

Specific purposes and objectives of the CMAC include:

  • Provide input on program and course content in order to remain competitive and current in the industry.
  • Develop and maintain a mutually beneficial liaison between industry practitioners and CM faculty.
  • Support the University’s recruiting and retention efforts.
  • Offer financial support to the program through dedicated scholarships and endowments, student enrichment activities, and sponsorship of research initiatives.
  • Provide an employment and placement network for program graduates and co-op students.

GMAC Committees

There are four standing subcommittees dedicated to the mission of the CMAC under the direction of the Executive Committee:

Outreach Committee
Increases the visibility within and among various groups including the regional and national construction industry, professional and trade associations, construction education community, secondary school educators/guidance counselors, and most importantly prospective students; improves and enhances construction industry image.

Curriculum Committee
Assists the faculty in curriculum development consistent with the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) guidelines and industry needs; supports activities required to secure and maintain ACCE accreditation; identifies and recommends viable specialization or concentration options for inclusion within the degree programs.

Resource Development Committee
Develops and implements strategies to secure external funding for the benefit of the CMGT program including scholarships, endowments, and student enhancement programs.

Membership Committee
Recommends new members to the CMAC and its various subcommittees.

The Executive Committee generally meets four times per year with the subcommittees above meeting as necessary. Regular events open to the general membership include a Networking Reception in the Fall and Awards Reception in the winter/spring. These events are excellent opportunities for the CMAC industry partners to become acquainted with CMGT students, and vice versa. The events also serve to expand the Drexel CMGT community in that alumni and others from the University frequently attend these events. CMAC regularly sponsors or underwrites various student activities including CMAA Student Chapter events, and others.
