Drexel Engineering Donates $5,000 to Mount Saint Joseph’s Robotics Team
September 15, 2011 — Drexel Engineering presented a check for $5,000 to Mount Saint Joseph Academy for their Robotics Team, the Firebirds. The donation will support the team’s competitions and programs this academic year.
The check was presented by Amy Campbell, Executive Director of Recruitment and Special Programs, and Dr. Bruce Eisenstein, Interim Dean of Drexel Engineering. They will present the check to MSJA President, S. Kathleen Brabson, SSJ, and Principal Dr. Judith Caviston and officers of the Firebirds, Mount Saint Joseph Academy’s robotics team.
Drexel Engineering’s support to the Firebirds is part of the national initiative to train tomorrow’s leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Drexel Engineering has played an active role in STEM education regionally, as the host of several science and engineering summer camps, the Greater Philadelphia Area Sea Perch Challenge and several K-12 events during Engineers Week. Drexel Engineering’s donation will specifically support the Firebird’s GirlPOWER (Preparing Outstanding Women Engineers through Robotics) competition and exhibition to be held October 8, 2011. High school robotics teams from the east coast will attend the event.
