Drexel University’s Living Laboratory “Smart House” Featured in Forbes

September 1, 2010 Drexel University’s student project which serves as a living laboratory and a hands-on approach, was featured in a Forbes blog highlighting their recent developments in sustainability. Students from all disciplines are creating the environmentally-friendly home. The Smart House design plan includes daylight simulation lighting, reflective roof coatings, a lightweight green roof, biomass air filtration and other student-developed products.

“We’re revolutionizing homes of the future. Through collaborative research, we’re developing innovative designs and technologies to improve the quality of living, both for people and for the environment,” said Cody Ray (ECE), President of Drexel Smart House.

The Smart House is a former Fraternity House secured by Drexel University. With over 100 students working on the project through multidisciplinary research, the team is working to develop smart designs and technologies to ensure an improved living style for the future. The Smart House will officially open in 2011 and it will function as a home for students and a living laboratory in which they can hatch new ideas for the building.
