Michel Barsoum
Two Drexel faculty members from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering have once again made Clarivate’s list of highly cited researchers for 2024, demonstrating continued significant impact in their field. Distinguished Professor Michel Barsoum and Distinguished University and Bach Professor Yury Gogotsi are both listed in the category of materials science, and Gogotsi is also included under chemistry.

To compile the list, Clarivate first selects papers over the past decade which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year. These are then evaluated using qualitative analysis and expert judgment to determine which show evidence of community-wide recognition from an international and wide-ranging network of citing authors.
Researchers appearing on the Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers 2024 represent the top 0.1% of the world’s scientists and social scientists by citations. Barsoum and Gogotsi are among only 232 researchers worldwide to appear on the list for the materials field. Additionally, Gogotsi is one of only 218 researchers to appear on the list for chemistry and is one of only roughly 6% of these highly cited researchers to appear in two categories.
