Steven May, PhD, department head and professor of materials science and engineering, has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS).
APS represents over 50,000 members in academia, industry and national labs and promotes the dissemination of physics knowledge and advances. According to the APS website, “The APS Fellowship Program was created to recognize members who may have made advances in physics through original research and publication, or made significant innovative contributions in the application of physics to science and technology. They may also have made significant contributions to the teaching of physics or service and participation in the activities of the Society.” No more than .5% percent of the membership may be elected to the program by their peers each year.
May was elected through the APS Division of Materials Physics “[f]or significant contributions to the understanding of structural, electronic, and magnetic properties in complex oxide heterostructures.” With this honor, May joins Drexel Materials professors Christopher Li, elected in 2012 and Jonathan Spanier, elected in 2016.
