Yury Gogotsi, PhD, Distinguished University and Charles T. and Ruth M. Bach Professor in Materials Science and Engineering, was recently named the recipient of the 2021 Materials Today Innovation Award, one of the most prestigious and exclusive awards in the field of materials.
The award recognizes monumental work which has opened a new, significant field of research and resulted in impactful, practical applications. Gogotsi is receiving the award for his “groundbreaking work on fundamentals and applied aspects of synthesis and surface modification of inorganic nanomaterials.”
Gogotsi, director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Group, finds himself in good company. Previous recipients of the award include Nobel Laureate, a Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering winner, and a Millennium Technology Prize recipient.
“I am humbled to be in the same group as some esteemed researchers,” Gogotsi said. “The field of materials yields so much exciting science, and I am honored to contribute to that in a significant way.”
Gogotsi will be officially recognized in a virtual ceremony and present a lecture on January 19.
