Drexel Magazine has announced its annual 40 Under 40 list, and among the young alumni honored are two alumni of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
Erik Schmidt graduated from Drexel in 2012 with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. After a stint at Pandora Radio where he designed the algorithms for Pandora's Thumbprint Radio--Pandora's no. 1 station with 46 million listeners--Schmidt took a role at Netflix as a Senior Research Scientist. Schmidt's 40 Under 40 profile is available here.
Schmidt earned his doctorate under the advisement of ECE's Dr. Youngmoo Kim. "Through his mentorship and my time in his lab I grew my knowledge in signal processing, machine learning and music information retrieval," recalled Schmidt to Drexel Magazine. "I also had the opportunity to publish my work at international conferences, yielding valuable feedback and insights from some of the best researchers in my field."
Schmidt recently spoke in Dr. Kim's ECE 101: ECE in the Real World class about his career trajectory. You can check out his talk at the ECE 101 website.
Robert Devlin earned a dual BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering as well as an MS in Material Science and Engineering in 2013. He later went on to earn his PhD from Harvard University in 2017. Devlin is currently the co-founder and chief scientist at Metalenz, a company commercializing flat optical technologies.
