BS/MS Student Mark Petrovic Receives Tau Beta Pi and ASM Foundation Scholarships

Drexel Materials rising senior Mark Petrovic is the recipient of two prominent scholarships, the 2020 Tau Beta Pi Scholarship and an ASM Materials Education Foundation Outstanding Scholar Award.

Tau Beta Pi is the world’s largest engineering society and awards its scholarships to junior members on a competitive basis of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.

The ASM Materials Education Foundation Outstanding Scholar Award is national scholarship awarded to three outstanding undergraduate students at the sophomore, junior, or senior level who demonstrate exemplary academic and personal achievements, interest and potential in metallurgy or materials science and engineering.

Mark is interested in biomaterials research and has conducted published research on nanofiber bone scaffolds. He is now working on improving the fatigue properties of bioprosthetic heart valves for his thesis project. In addition to his academic and research achievements, Mark volunteers his time supporting hospital research projects, and has also been involved with the department as a member of Material Advantage, the materials student professional organization, and the outreach program, D.E.M.O. (Drexel Experiences in Materials Outreach). Mark plans to continue studying the mechanics of cardiovascular disease in an MD/PhD program.
