Alvarez Wins AIChE Delaware Valley Outstanding Faculty Award

Congratulations to Dr. Nicolas Alvarez, assistant professor, on winning the AIChE Delaware Valley Section Outstanding Faculty Award. The Outstanding Faculty Award recognizes a faculty member early in their tenure “who has contributed to the profession through publications and presentations in his/her field, demonstrated commitment to teaching and students, and has a strong record of service to the department, college, university, and professional organizations.” Alvarez was selected to receive the award among faculty nominees from universities throughout the Philadelphia area.

Among others honored at the 2019 Academic Awards Banquet were CBE students Alexander Ligier, Vincent Spina, and Linh Le; alumna Julia Cutler; and PhD candidate Saad Intikhab.

Wrenn Awarded Patent for Encapsulation Invention

Congratulations to Dr. Steve Wrenn, professor, and CBE alum Dr. Stephen Dicker on the issuance of their patent "Encapsulation of Microbubbles Within the Aqueous Core of Microcapsules." Patent number 10, 258, 563 was issued on April 16. The invention includes a construct that comprises at least one microbubble encapsulated within the aqueous core of a microcapsule. The invention also includes a pharmaceutical composition comprising a construct of at least one microbubble encapsulated within the aqueous core of a microcapsule. The present invention further includes a method of imaging a tissue or organ in a subject, a method of delivering a therapeutic cargo to a tissue or organ in a subject, and a method of treating a disease or disorder in a subject.
