We are pleased to share that the Drexel team which participated in the IEEE RFID Educational Mega Challenge: Smart Cities has won the competition at the IEEE RFID 2018 conference in Orlando, Florida. The team consists of ECE sophomores Jui Hanamshet and Mannika Kshettry, ECE Ph.D student Ilhaan Rasheed, and Drexel professors Genevieve Dion and ECE's own Kapil Dandekar.
The challenge asked student groups to identify a challenge facing major urban areas, and propose a solution that incorporated RFID (radio-frequency identification) technology. The Drexel team's winning proposal involved the use of passive RFID to develop a low-cost "smart seat" that can be used to determine seat occupancy in mass transit applications.
Congratulations to our students and their faculty advisors on this great accomplishment!
