Drexel University's Society for Women Engineering (SWE) has received the "BOLD Student Organization of the Year Award" at Drexel's Student Life Impact Awards last Thursday. Out of the hundreds of organizations at Drexel, SWE was recognized as the organization that exemplified outstanding commitment to and impact on the Drexel community through excellence in program planning, financial management and member leadership development.
"SWE was started at Drexel by just a few driven young women in 1950 and now is an International Society of 35,000 members. All of our hard work over the years of developing our outreach, networking, professional development, mentoring, membership, public relations and wellness programs has proven worth it," says Lexi Kapusta, President of Drexel's Society of Women Engineers, and BS/MS Civil Engineering student. "I am so proud that Drexel sees the worth in our organization. The network of support, friendships, encouragement and family that SWE has built at Drexel and in Philly is the future of STEM industries. Glass ceilings are breaking all over the world and I'm so happy Drexel has and always will pave the way."
Granted each spring, the "BOLD Student Organization of the Year Award" is part of a series of Student Life Impact Awards, presented to individuals and University organizations that have made positive contributions to the Drexel community. Winners of these awards are nominated and all Drexel students, faculty, and professional staff are invited to submit candidates to be considered. Self-nominations are also accepted.
