ECE Senior Design Team Received Several Awards at 2016 Celebration of Engineering Design

Ten Senior Design teams from the College of Engineering took part in the 2016 Celebration of Engineering Design on June 2, 2016. A team from the department took home four awards:

  • Popular Vote Award
  • Entrepreneurial Potential Award (tied with a team from Engineering Technology)
  • Technical Merit Award, second place
  • Innovations Award, second place

The winning team included Sena Agezo, Somesh Chopra, Ziyu Ye, and Yuxiang Zhang and was advised by Dr. Timothy Kurzweg. The team presented a project entitled "Battery-free RFID Heart Rate Monitoring System." The team's primary focus centered around incorporating an existing Drexel technology of a battery-free passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag used in conjunction with an RFID reader into a wearable infant heart rate monitor with an accompanying mobile app for user interface.

Senior Design is intended to simulate a professional work environment, provide experience working in a group on an open-ended problem, and refine skills in information-gathering and communication. The Celebration of Engineering Design is an annual event where some of the best teams from across the college can showcase their hard work and gain experience presenting their ideas to a larger, wider audience.

Please join us in congratulating our department team on a job well done.
