Professor Christopher Li and BS/MS student Ziyin Huang (advisor: Christopher Li) have been honored with 2016 College of Engineering awards for their achievements this past year.
Li has received the College of Engineering’s 2016 Outstanding Research Award for Professor. Over the past year alone, Li has received two National Science Foundation (NSF) grants, one American Chemical Society, one Army Research Laboratory, and one industrial grant, and manages a total of five active NSF research grants for which he serves as PI. He has published 15 papers in the last year. Honored for his research accomplishments, Li is Fellow of both the American Physical Society and the North American Thermal Analysis Society and currently serves as the President of the North American Thermal Analysis Society.
Huang is the recipient of the College of Engineering’s 2016 Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award. A member of the Pennoni Honors College, Huang is an exceptional student who conducts research in Li’s lab. He is a member of Alpha Sigma Mu, the materials honor society, is the recipient of numerous scholarships, and has recently had three journal papers accepted for publication. In particular, his service and outreach are integral to his work and he has held leadership roles in nearly all of the organizations with which he is involved. Huang is currently the Assistant Student Chapter Chair for the ASEE Student Division and is also in the process of helping to start a chapter at Drexel. As President of the Drexel Student Chapter of Material Advantage from 2012-2015, he demonstrated a tremendous capacity for leadership, organizing events such as resume workshops and research talks. He has served as a Peer Mentor, is a Paul Peck Scholar, a Near Peer mentor for undergraduates, a Student, a manuscript reviewer for the Student Division and the Community Engagement in Engineering Education Division for the American Society of Engineering Education 2015 Annual Conference, and a member of the newly established department peer mentors for freshmen.
Li and Huang were two of eight honorees who received College-level awards given to faculty, staff, and students this year. The awardees were honored at a reception on Wednesday, April 27th at 4 pm in the Bossone Research Enterprise Center Atrium.
