Drexel CBE Undergraduates Anjli Patel and Anthony Abel Win Goldwater Scholarships

Anthony Abel and Anjli PatelAnjli Patel and Anthony Abel, both undergraduates in Drexel’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, have won prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarships. They are 2 of only 68 engineering majors across the country to be selected for this award. The Scholarship Program is designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering, and is awarded to sophomores and juniors showing exceptional promise in research. Anjli, a junior, and Anthony, a pre-junior, both work in the laboratory of Professor Jason Baxter on projects involving solar energy conversion- specifically on the use of iron oxide to produce hydrogen from water and sunlight. Earlier this year they published a paper together on the topic in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C. They have also presented their work at several conferences. Anthony is currently on co-op at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Anjli is on co-op at GlaxoSmithKline. Both intend to pursue a PhD after graduating from Drexel. Congratulations Anthony and Anjli!
