Prof. Ken Lau received a Sabbatical Leave Award, which provided him the opportunity to spend six months from July to December in 2013 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong, China. During this time, he was able to establish a new research collaboration with Prof. Guohua Chen, the Head of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, to investigate the integration of electroactive polymers and active electrode materials with the goal of enhancing battery performance and lifetime. This new effort in energy storage is now ongoing and he is currently co-advising a Ph.D. graduate with Prof. Chen on this project. In addition, during this time, Prof. Lau taught a semester course in transport phenomena to chemical engineering graduate students, a unique experience which has opened his eyes to teaching in a different academic and cultural setting.
