Drexel University will host for the first time the fall meeting and technical conference of the Fiber Society, to take place October 22-24, 2014 at the Chemical Heritage Foundation and at Drexel University. Associate Professor Caroline Schauer of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is chairing the conference.
In addition to an international group of participants, “Fibers for…the Future” will highlight Drexel’s advancements in active textiles, biosensing fibers, and fibers for energy. Presenters will feature current Drexel faculty, students, and alumni including Schauer and plenary speaker Geneviève Dion, assistant professor in the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, among others. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour Drexel’s premier Shima Seiki Haute Technology Laboratory in the ExCITe Center.
Founded in 1941, the Fiber Society exists to advance the scientific knowledge pertaining to fibers, fiber based products, and fibrous materials. The conference is sponsored by Johnson & Johnson, Drexel University, the College of Engineering, and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
