The College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Medicine (COM) sponsored joint networking events in February, 2014. Those events promoted the formation of new or strengthened existing collaborations between members of the COE and COM faculty. A COE/COM Seed Funding Program RFP was issued for competitive awards of $25,000.
We were quite enthusiastic about the excellent quality of the proposals and the opportunities for our colleges and Drexel overall to establish new projects and programs. We received 18 applications across a broad range of topics and with proposed research plans that could lead to serious, new projects seeking extramural funding. Each application was reviewed by two independent reviewers, comprised of a panel of colleagues from the College of Medicine, College of Engineering and other colleges and schools within the university. Four COE/COM faculty collaborative teams received awards of $25,000.
The following proposals will receive awards:
“Alterations of the Gut Microbiome During Development of Obesity-associated Liver Cancer”
Michael Bouchard, PhD, (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, COM) Gail Rosen, PhD (Electrical & Computer Engineering, COE)
“Preventing HIV Transmission in Breastfeeding Infants using Nanofiber Technology”
Fred Krebs, PhD (Microbiology & Immunology, COM) Christopher Yuren Li, PhD, (Materials Science & Engineering, COE)
“Targeting Pulmonary Hypertension with Novel O-GlcNAcylation Inhibitors”
