Two materials Ph.D. students received Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Awards at the 2014 MRS Spring Meeting and Exhibit in San Francisco, CA.

Ph.D. student Michael Naguib (advisors:  Michel Barsoum and Yury Gogotsi) is a recipient of the Gold Award and Ph.D. student Andrew Akbashev (advisor:  Jonathan Spanier) is a recipient of the Silver Award.

The awards honor students who excel in research and academic achievements.  MRS looks to recognize those students who show particular promise for future excellence in materials science and engineering.

Gold awardees received $400 and a presentation plaque and silver awardees received $200 and a certificate of accomplishment.  All finalists had their registration fees waived and received a one-year MRS student membership.  The awards were presented during an awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 23, 2014.
