A. W. Grosvenor Professor Michel Barsoum has published a new book through Wiley-VCH titled MAX Phases: Properties of Machinable Ternary Carbides and Nitrates.
This book represents the first thorough review of the full range of MAX Phases, a fascinating class of relatively young layered solids that combine an unusual and often unique range of properties. While many review articles have been dedicated to the discussion of MAX Phases, they have typically focused on a select subset, or have only been able to provide a broad overview of the 50+ phases. This is the first comprehensive book on MAX Phases, from both an experimental and a theoretical viewpoint, which covers elastic, electrical, thermal, chemical and mechanical properties in different temperature regimes, concluding with a treatment of MAX phase composites and potential as well as current applications.
With its inclusive and unified approach to the topic, Barsoum’s book on MAX Phases offers researchers and developers alike insight into these fascinating materials.
