Expressive and Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITe) Center will host the Philadelphia
Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK) during the
National Day of Civic Hacking this Saturday and Sunday, June 1 through June 2, 2013.
RHoK is a weekend-long civic hacking event in which subject matter experts partner with technologists to create tools that make Philadelphia better. Organized by technology news site
TechnicallyPhilly.com, Drexel University and the City of Philadelphia, the hackathon will focus on bringing together developers with mostly non-technical experts from non-profits, non-governmental organizations and government agencies to develop social and global impact technology projects. Participants will use meaningful data to build tools, applications and data sources to better visualize, contextualize or understand the world.
This year marks Drexel’s fourth RHoK event, aimed at bringing the technical community together to develop solutions for issues that aid people through the use of applied science. Drexel students play a huge role in developing this event, generating interest and establishing their own resolutions to dilemmas. Each member will work to contribute while groups work together to brainstorm ideas on how to execute recommendations utilizing technology.
The opening reception will take in place in Conversation Hall at Philadelphia City Hall starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013 for refreshments and brainstorming.
