Drexel University’s Expressive & Creative Interaction Technologies (ExCITe) Center will host Music Hack Day, a 24-hour hackathon where programmers, designers, musicians and artists come together to conceptualize, build and demo the future of music on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 through May 19, 2013 in the ExCITE Center. This event has occurred in more than 12 cities around the world, but this is the first time it's happening in Philadelphia. Software, hardware, mobile, web, instruments, art and anything music related is welcome. The event has hosted more than 2,000 participants and continues to grow each year. The weekend schedule includes workshops, application programming interface tutorials, live music, demos and the event closes with prizes for the best hacks.
In anticipation of Music Hack Day, Drexel’s ExCITe Center has released a re-mastered version of the Hubos “Come Together” video that stole the spotlight on Youtube last year. The new take is chock-full of inside information in the classic VH1 “Pop-up Video” format.
“The inspiration for the original video came from the photo shoot for Drexel Magazine recreating the classic ‘Abbey Road’ album cover with the Hubos,” said Dr. Youngmoo Kim, director of the ExCITe Center. “As a music technology lab, we felt compelled to do something musical as a follow-up, and the entire video project was completed in less than weeks. We hope the pop-up video provides a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the project and demonstrates some of the ways music and technology can literally and figuratively ‘come together’ at Music Hack Day.”
The popup video is only part of the fun expected this weekend.
