CAEE doctoral student Jared Langevin (advisor, Dr. Jin Wen) is a recent recipient of the 2013-2014 American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Graduate Student Grant-In-Aid award. The ASHRAE Grant-In-Aid is given annually to 10 to 25 full-time graduate students of ASHRAE-related technologies. The award’s primary purpose is “to encourage outstanding graduate students to become involved in ASHRAE research and establish careers that include active engagement within and continued contributions to Society activities.” Students are evaluated on the basis of their research plan, their advisor’s recommendation, and an overall assessment of the likelihood of their future involvement within ASHRAE. Jared will use the funds provided by the ASHRAE Grant-In-Aid to help support his Ph.D. thesis project, titled Human Behavior & Low Energy Architecture Linking Environmental Adaptation, Personal Comfort, and Energy Use in the Built Environment. Jared is now the second member of BSEG to have won the ASHRAE Grant-In-Aid. Doctoral student Adams Rackes (advisor, Dr. Michael Waring) won the award in 2012 for his proposal: Design and optimization of cost-effective environmental sensor networks for commercial buildings.
