Congratulations to Lauren Davis, a CBE undergraduate, for being awarded a USDA Forest Service Philadelphia Field Station Fellowship. Only 6 fellowships were awarded in 2013 and Lauren was the only undergraduate recipient.
Fellowship Purpose
The fellowship program is intended to promote environmental literacy and collaborative learning activities and increase the number of new scientists, as well as promote career opportunities, in urban forestry. This fellowship program is a result of a partnership with Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the University of Pennsylvania. Additional partnerships have been involved in the development of these projects and will play key roles in supporting the selected fellows.
Lauren's Project:
Green Infrastructure: The Role of Trees and Forests in Green Infrastructure
Green infrastructure has become a major component to stormwater management strategies. Trees, parks, and urban forests can be a cost-effective component to green infrastructure. While green infrastructure is a promising approach to stormwater management, it is a very new approach. The practice and application of green infrastructure has moved out ahead of the science, and much research is still needed to understand how these features perform over time.
