An image created at Drexel University is one of 44 images part of a special traveling exhibit of “Princeton Art of Science” award winners from the past five years.
"Five-Horned Eggshell," an image created at Drexel University and a winner in the "Princeton Art of Science" competition.“Five-Horned Eggshell” by Princeton postdoctoral researcher Dr. Nir Yakoby and Drexel materials alumna Dr. María Pía Rossi (Ph.D. 2007, advisor: Yury Gogotsi) is an image of a fruit-fly egg. The image was captured by Rossi using the environmental SEM in Drexel’s Centralized Research Facilities and colored by Natalie Gogotsi, B.S./M.S. student in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
The research connected to this image was part of a collaboration between Gogotsi’s Nanomaterials Group and Professor Stanislav Shvartsman of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University that led to a joint paper, "Systems-Level Questions in Drosophila Oogenesis" published in IEEE Proceedings Systems Biology.
The “Princeton Art of Science” exhibit is open September 2012 until August 2013 at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. The image also appeared in a news item about the exhibit in the Winter 2013 issue of the E Quad News, a publication of Princeton's School of Engineering and Applied Science.
