Associate Professor Ken Lau was recently invited to present a lecture on "A New Approach for the Synthesis of Organic Polymers: The iCVD Story" at the JAIST International School (www.jaist.ac.jp/ms/International-School/Cat-CVD) in Kanazawa, Japan. This week-long school from March 4-8, 2013 was organized by the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) that brought together a total of 33 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers from around the world, including the USA, UK, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, France, Mexico, Australia, Taiwan, and South Korea. Students were competitively selected to hear and learn about the current state of technology and research in hot-wire chemical vapor deposition (HWCVD) techniques, materials, and applications from 9 lecturers that are leaders in HWCVD particularly in the area of solar cells, including Prof. Ruud Schropp (Utrecht and Eindhoven), Prof. Hideki Matsumura (JAIST), and Dr. Harv Mahan (NREL, USA). Two current graduate students, Sharon Hsieh (CBE) and Eric Laird (MSE), from Drexel University, and a Drexel alum, Dr. Ranjita Bose (CBE, PhD 2011), took part in this international school. Travel and lodging expenses, and stipends for all participants were fully funded by the generous support of JAIST.
