GEMS Award WinnersAt this year's Material Science & Technology (MS&T) Conference in Pittsburgh, PA, Ph.D. student Babak Anasori (advisor: Dr. Michel Barsoum) received the Diamond Award from the Basic Science Division of the American Ceramic Society for Graduate Excellence in Materials Science (GEMS) and, along with Ph.D. student Michael Naguib Abdelmalak (advisors: Barsoum & Gogotsi), earned a Roland B. Snow Best of Show Award for their image "Green MXene Turtle."
The GEMS Awards recognize the outstanding scientific and academic achievements of graduate students in materials science and engineering. Each year, the selection committee identifies ten students to receive the GEMS award, and based on the quality of their oral presentations at MS&T, selects the top three from that group to receive Diamond Awards. The Roland B. Snow Best of Show Award is given to the winning submission in the Ceramographic Competition, a poster exhibit promoting the use of microscopy and microanalysis to increase our understanding of ceramic materials.
