Drexel University will host the Philadelphia Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK), a weekend hackathon focused on bringing together developers with mostly non-technical subject matter experts from non-profits, NGOs and government agencies to develop social impact technology projects. The event will take place June 2 to June 3, in Drexel’s University Crossings.
This year marks Drexel’s third RHoK event, aimed at bringing the technical community together to develop solutions for issues that aid people through the use of applied science. Drexel students play a huge role in developing this event, generating interest and establishing their own resolutions to dilemmas. Each member will work to contribute while groups work together to brainstorm ideas on how to execute recommendations utilizing technology.
Drexel students have previously supported organizations with ideas developed during RHoK events including homeless shelters by developing Sheltr, a mobile-friendly web app that helps individuals locate nearby food and shelters from any address in Philadelphia. Drexel continues to be a leading force for promoting and advancing RHoK’s mission within the region by participating in and hosting events that allow the area’s most innovative technical minds to come meet and answer questions within their unique disciplines.
Participants are welcome to attend a reception at Seed Philly, 1650 Arch Street #1906 in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, June 1 at 6:00 p.m. for refreshments and brainstorming. Attendees will be introduced to the featured problems and meet other hackathon participants. Registration will be available until Friday, June 1 at the official event website.
