After Drexel University’s Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) Department’s Steel Bridge team took first place in both the display and stiffness categories at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2012 Mid-Atlantic Student Conference at Lafayette College on April 28 -29, the team will now have the opportunity to compete at the 2012 National Student Steel Bridge Competition, on May 25-26 at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C.
Drexel’s Steel Bridge team members are: Bilal Baqai, Timothy Bratton, Patrick Callahan, Jules Campanella, Ange Christiani (co-captain), James Drogalis, Brandon Glencross, Colin Henner, Simba Jhamba, Kyle Jurgelewicz, Lolu Kusemiju, Pete Matthews, Ian McEwing, Ashley Mundackal, Carl Oberg, Neil Patel, Sam Pomager, Nicole Quinlan, Lauren Reiter, Dan Seeberger, Steven Squibb, Sonya Suntsova, Mike Thorley, and Mike Whelan (co-captain). The team’s faculty advisors are: Dr. A. Emin Aktan, Dr. Ivan Bartoli and Dr. Joseph Martin.
Given their second place standing, the Steel Bridge team will compete at the 2012 National Student Steel Bridge Competition, on May 25-26 at Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. Although the Concrete Canoe team also placed second overall at Lafayette, competition rules do not make the team eligible to compete at the National Concrete Canoe competition.
Both Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe team members dedicate immeasurable amounts of time and effort towards the conceptualization and execution of their designs. These team members are also very active advocates for the CAEE Department and the College of Engineering, frequently presenting their accomplishments to prospective students and university visitors.
