Arianna Watters and James Throckmorton traveled to Baltimore, MD to compete in the SAMPE University Research Symposium in May 2012. Students undergo a competitive selection process in order to attend, submitting an abstract in the fall, a technical paper, and if selected as a finalist, travel to the conference to showcase their work. The oral presentation is graded based on motivation, quality and relevance of work, technical understanding of findings, and overall quality of the presentation. James Throckmorton placed 3rd in the PhD category, and Arianna Watters placed 2nd in the MS category.
