The art and science behind the discovery of MXenes by A. W. Grosvenor Professor Michel Barsoum, Distinguished University and Trustee Chair Professor Yury Gogotsi, and Ph.D. students Babak Anasori and Michael Naguib has been written up in an article, "Microscopic Mountains," in the Philadelphia Inquirer by Inquirer staff writer Tom Avril.
The article details how the researchers discovered MXenes and the potential these 2-dimensional materials have to increase battery storage in lithium-ion batteries.
Avril also describes the process by which Anasori has captured the images of these materials with a scanning electron microscope and subsequently false-colored them to appear as works of art. Anasori has won several awards for his images. A gallery of Anasori's images accompanies the article.
