Two Students Awarded NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute Fellowships

Drexel Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics (MEM) doctoral students, U Kei Cheang and Qudus Hamid were selected as a National Science Foundation (NSF) East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (EAPSI) Fellows for the summer of 2012.  

For eight weeks, Cheang will visit three universities in the Republic of Korea to investigate Micro Swimming in a Bio-Fluid Environment. Hamid will spend the summer at Tsinghua University in China continuing his research in to Fabrication a of Microfluidic Tissue Array using a Digital Micro-mirroring Device. 

The EAPSI fellowship provides students the opportunity to conduct first hand research in an area of interest and foster international collaboration among students from different cultures. Cheang believes his experience will offer him the chance to combine his expertise with the expertise of foreign collaborators and to develop an overseas network that will strengthen future research. 

Both Cheang and Hamid received their BSME and MSME from Drexel University. Cheang is advised by MinJun Kim, PhD. Hamid’s advisor is Wei Sun, PhD.
