Dr. Kevin Scoles
, associate professor of the Electrical & Computer Engineering department, has been chosen to receive the 2012 Faculty Advisor Award from SAE International to be presented during the Faculty Advisor & CDS Team Advisors meeting at the SAE 2012 World Congress & Exhibition on April 25. SAE International is a global association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries. This award recognizes Scoles’ dedication and contributions to SAE and Drexel’s Collegiate Chapter. Scoles will receive an engraved plaque and funds to attend any SAE meeting or conference in 2012.
“It’s great to be honored for an activity like this that I really enjoy. The SAE Formula Hybrid racing program is a very collaborative effort but it’s the students who ultimately get the car on the track. I’ll be using my travel funds to attend the 2012 SAE World Congress in Detroit,” said Scoles.
Scoles received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Union College and his doctoral degree from Dartmouth College. He has been with Drexel ECE's department since 1982 and teaches courses on engineering design; renewable energy; solar energy engineering; analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design and analysis and laboratory courses integrating electrical and computer engineering concepts.
Scoles is also a member of IEEE, Sigma Xi, ASEE and IMAPS. He received the ASEE Dow Outstanding Young Faculty Award (Middle-Atlantic Region) in 1987, the Drexel University Martin Kaplan Distinguished Faculty Award in 1998 and the College of Engineering Faculty Achievement Award for Service Accomplishment in 2001.
Scoles has done research in engineering education and student retention; solar energy; electronic circuit applications and microelectronic packaging.
