All first-time freshman applicants with complete admission applications on file by January 15 will be automatically reviewed for the academic-achievement A.J. Drexel Scholarship in amounts up to $26,000.

Admission Deadlines for Westphal College of Media Arts & Design

Applicants with exceptional academic qualifications who have decided that the Westphal College is their top choice can apply early and receive an admission decision sooner in the admission process. A complete application is due December 1. If you are admitted, you have until May 1 to fully explore Drexel and confirm your intention to enroll. This is a nonbinding Early Action program. The regular admission deadline for freshman applicants to Westphal programs is March 1.

Transfer Admission Deadlines

The application deadlines for transfer applicants vary depending on the term in which you wish to enroll.

Note: The Westphal College of Media Arts & Design, Chemistry, Physics, Radiologic Technology, Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, Software Engineering (ISE program code only), and Nursing Co-op programs only admit transfer students in the fall. The College of Information Science and Technology admits transfer students in the fall and winter terms. Students cannot transfer into the full-time Architecture program, or programs for Still-Deciding Students®. Nursing ACE and Radiologic Technology applications received after the deadline will be reviewed on a continuous basis.

International Application Checklist

Drexel takes into consideration a number of criteria when determining admission, including your high school performance, letters of recommendation, and essay.

  1. Undergraduate Admission Application
    Complete an application for Undergraduate Admission. We prefer that you apply online to Drexel. We accept the following online applications:

       • The Common Application
       • Universal College Application

    If you do not wish to apply online, you may download and print either of the following:

    You may only submit one application. To expedite the application process, please write your full name (no nicknames, please) on all items submitted. If you need to change your major or co-op selection after submitting your application, please contact Admissions at enroll@drexel.edu,1-800-2-DREXEL or 1-215-895-2400.

  2. Application Fee, $75 (waived if you apply on campus or online)

  3. Essay
    All applicants (except Nursing ACE and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants) must submit a 1- to 2-page essay online. We do not accept essays submitted on paper.

    Westphal College of Media Arts & Design applicants: Relate your essay topic to your interest in your intended major. If you are applying to an accelerated degree program in the Westphal College, your essay topic should relate to your selected major and indicate why you are a good candidate for the program.

    Accelerated degree applicants: You should describe the factors that influenced your decision to pursue an accelerated degree in your chosen profession. Note: International students are ineligible to apply for the BA/BS/MD program.
    • BA/BS/JD applicants should refer to the Application Procedures for the BA/BS/JD Program for specific essay topics.
    • BS/PhD applicants must also describe any research involvement.
    • BS/MS in Psychology applicants should provide a description of the decision-making process which led them to pursue this degree program.


    All other applicants:
    You may write about why you are interested in your choice of major, or you may write on any subject you choose.

  4. Transcripts
    All international applicants are required to submit an official academic record (with notarized English translation) from every secondary or postsecondary school attended. A transcript is official only when it is sent directly from an institution to Admissions, or when it is officially signed, stamped in color, and sealed. You may print the Transcript Request Form [PDF] and use it to request official transcripts from your school counselor and/or registrar.

    All Nursing ACE, RN-BSN Degree Completion, and Radiologic Technology applicants who have coursework from an institution outside of the United States — except Study Abroad — must have their transcripts evaluated by one of these agencies:
    World Education Services (WES)
    International Consultants of Delaware
    Educational Credential Evaluators

    Transfer Students: Transfer applicants must submit transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended. Syllabus/course descriptions must accompany transcripts for evaluation of transfer credits.

    If you have completed fewer than 24 credits at the time of application, you must also submit an official copy of your secondary school transcript.

    Note: Radiologic Technology applicants are required to submit a high school transcript regardless of the number of completed college credits.


  5. Standardized Test Scores
    All applicants (except as indicated below) must take at least one of the following: SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, or ACT if your native language is not English. International applicants with both SAT and TOEFL or IELTS scores are considered more competitive candidates. Results must be forwarded to Admissions. All students should use the following codes to send score reports to Drexel: SAT 2194 or TOEFL 2194.     All Nursing ACE, BSN Co-op, and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants
    : Applicants born outside of the United States are required to take the TOEFL examination. Applicants can be waived from the TOEFL if the applicant was born on a U.S. military base or has completed four years of high school and has a high school diploma from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada, or Ireland.
    Passing test scores:
    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum combined score of 79 with a 26 score or higher in the speaking section.
    OR
    • TOEFL paper-based exam: Total score of 550 and the Test of Spoken English (TSE) exam with a minimum score of 55.

    Transfer Students: If you have completed 24 or more college credits in the United States and earned a grade of C or better in English Composition I and II, you are not required to submit standardized test scores. Otherwise you must take either the SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, or ACT and request that the results be forwarded to Admissions. All students should use the following codes to send score reports to Drexel: SAT 2194, TOEFL 2194.


  6. Letters of Recommendation
    Two letters of recommendation are required. At least one must be completed by a high school counselor. You may submit our online Letter of Recommendation form or print and submit the Recommendation Forms [PDF]. Recommendations on official letterhead will also be accepted.

    Note: Nursing ACE and RN-BSN Degree Completion applicants are not required to submit recommendations.

    Transfer Students: Letters of recommendation are not required.


  7. Portfolio (Fashion Design and Graphic Design applicants only)
    You are required to submit a sample of your creative work with a maximum of 12 images of drawings, paintings, photographs, or other visual materials or a website. Briefly explain the context within which you created the work. All work submitted becomes part of the application and will not be returned. Your portfolio must be submitted online at HighSchoolPortfolios.com.

  8. Audition (Dance applicants only)
    Dance applicants are required to audition. Visit the Westphal College Dance website for more information.

  9. Additional Requirements
    RN-BSN degree completion applicants
    are required to submit a copy of their RN license. Applicants must have an unrestricted, current, and active RN license with no limitations, riders, actions, or covenants attached.

    Invasive Cardiovascular Technology applicants are required to submit a copy of their ARRT certification.

  10. Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant Program (Optional)
    A $250 grant is awarded annually to enrolling undergraduates who have been recommended by a Drexel alumnus/a or trustee. Print the Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant Form [PDF], complete the top portion of this form, and give it to the person providing your endorsement. The form must be postmarked by February 1 for freshman applicants applying to the fall term. For transfer applicants, the form must be postmarked by April 1 for fall term entry, by November 15 for winter term entry, or by February 15 for spring term entry.

    Note: Nursing ACE, RN-BSN Degree Completion, Radiologic Technology, and Invasive Cardiovascular Technology applicants are not eligible for the Alumni-Trustee Endorsement Grant.

  11. Proof of Financial Responsibility
    Students who are not United States citizens or permanent residents must provide proof of financial responsibility in order to obtain a student visa. All documents must be notarized and written in English. You must complete and submit the Immigration Reporting Form [PDF] and the following documents:
    • A copy of your passport
    • A current official bank letter in either your name or your sponsor's name. The signature of the bank official must attest to the amount of funds available in the account.
    • A non-Drexel scholarship award letter in your name. Enclose a signed letter or affidavit of support giving full details regarding the promise of support, and the specific amount of money in U.S. dollars.

    Transfer Students: International Transfer applicants who have a valid I-20 form must submit the International Student Transfer Form [PDF].
