Welcome to IELTS Philadelphia! We are currently the only IELTS testing center in the Philadelphia area, and we are happy to serve your IELTS needs. Below you will find more information on test dates, registration, and other important topics to help you register for your IELTS exam.

FEE: Starting JANUARY 2014, the IELTS fee is $200.00.

AVAILABILITY: Tests fill up 2-3 months in advance, so plan ahead. You are not officially registered unless you have submitted an online application, copy of passport, JPEG photo, your test fee and you have received a confirmation e-mail from the IELTS office.

SCORES: The test fee includes one personal Test Result Form and up to five additional score reports for colleges/universities/institutions. You must complete the "Add Recognising Organisations" form as part of your online application in order for these reports to be sent for free. Scores older than two years are NOT valid--and CANNOT be ordered. 

Additional Test Result Forms are ordered by online credit/debit card payment: online payment.  Scores older than two years are NOT valid--and CANNOT be ordered.

CANADA: IELTS is now the official test for all candidates applying for Canadian immigration.

About the Test

  • IELTS. The International English Language Testing System, measures ability to communicate in English across all four language skills ­ listening, reading, writing and speaking. IELTS is jointly managed by British Council, IDP IELTS Australia and the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (Cambridge ESOL) through more than 500 locations in 120 countries and is designed for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication.

  • FREE PRACTICE. Study materials are available free online at http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/test_sample.aspx
  • ACADEMIC vs. GENERAL. There are two versions of the IELTS test: Academic and General Training. All candidates take the same listening and speaking tests, but the reading and writing modules are different. It is important to take the correct version:
    • Choose Academic if you are interested in attending a university program.
    • Choose General Training if you are interested in non-academic work training or work experience, or for immigration purposes.

IELTS Test Preparation Seminars

 

  • DREXEL TEST PREP. As the only authorized IELTS Testing Center in the Philadelphia Area, Drexel University offers a series of IELTS Test Preparation Seminars.
  • CONTENT. These seminars are dedicated to understanding, reviewing and practicing all four components of the IELTS exam: Speaking, Reading (Academic and General), Writing (Academic and General), and Listening. The seminar classes are three hours each—for a total of nine hours per session. Candidates may attend one, two, or all three seminar meetings. An IELTS test preparation textbook is required and costs $35.

  • If there is snow or ice during the winter months call the IELTS phone number (215-895-6138) for updates on the test administration. You will be notified of a postponement date if the test is cancelled, but travel expenses incurred are at your personal expense.

 

Important Policies

  1. LOCATION. The test is administered monthly on the Drexel University campus by the Drexel English Language Center. For a map of Drexel University, see: http://www.drexel.edu/admissions/visit/directions/map-university-city/
  2. REGISTRATION. Drexel now accepts ONLY online internet-based registration at http://www.test.registration-usa.com. There are no paper applications. 
    All registration AND payment is now completed online.
  3. REFUNDS. No fees will be refunded for candidates who cancel within five weeks of the test date unless there is a verified medical emergency. Candidates who cancel FIVE weeks or more before the test will be charged a $25.00 handling fee.
  4. SPEAKING TEST. Some IELTS candidates prefer to take their speaking test during the week before or after the Saturday exam. This is permitted by IELTS policy. If you are interested in taking your 15-minute speaking test during the week instead of on Saturday, please e-mail ielts@drexel.edu with your full name and we will attempt to schedule a date and time convenient for you.
  5. SCORES (TRFs). The test fee includes one personal Test Result Form (TRF) and up to five additional score reports for colleges/universities/institutions. You must complete the "Add Recognising Organisations" form as part of your online application in order for these reports to be sent for free. All additional scores are ordered by online credit/debit card payment: online payment.  Scores older than two years are NOT valid--and CANNOT be ordered.

STEP 1: APPLY WITH ONLINE APPLICATION

  1. APPLY ONLINE. Complete online application: http://www.test.registration-usa.com.
  2. UPLOAD JPEG PHOTO WITH ONLINE APPLICATION. JPEG photo must be less than 10 kb, at least 131 x 131 pixels, and no more than six months old.  Candidates may not wear glasses in their passport-sized photograph.
  3. SCAN COPY OF PASSPORT INFORMATION PAGE TO ielts@drexel.edu via e-mail attachment.

    OR

  4. SUBMIT BOTH JPEG PHOTO AND COPY OF PASSPORT TO ielts@drexel.edu via e-mail attachment.

STEP 2: SUBMIT COPY OF PASSPORT AND JPEG PHOTO

  1. SUBMIT DOCUMENTS WITHIN FIVE DAYS. In addition to completing the online application, you can also submit documents by e-mail attachment to ielts@drexel.edu.  Your application will be deleted after five days if you do not send your documents (passport copy and JPEG photo) or pay online.

    STEP 3: ONLINE PAYMENT

    1. ONLINE PAYMENT. All registration fees (and other payments) are paid by online credit/debit card payment: online payment
    2. REFUNDS. NO FEES WILL BE REFUNDED for candidates who cancel within five weeks of the test date unless there is a verified medical emergency. Candidates who cancel five weeks or more before the test are charged a $25.00 handling fee.
    3. $200. As of January 2014, the IELTS registration fee is $200 and can be paid ONLY by online credit/debit card payment: online payment
    4. OTHER PAYMENTS. Seminar fees, test prep books, and additional score reports are paid ONLY by online credit/debit card payment: online payment.  Scores older than two years are NOT valid--and CANNOT be ordered.
    5. FREE PRACTICE. Online study materials are available for free at http://www.ielts.org/test_takers_information/test_sample.aspx 
    6. Test Report Forms.     On Test Day

     

    • 8:00AM. Registration begins at 8:00AM. The morning portion of the exam begins at 9:00AM and ends by approximately 12:30PM.  Individual 15-minute speaking interviews are scheduled between 1:00PM and 6:00PM.
    • PASSPORT ID. You must bring your passport ID. The only form of identification accepted is your passport.

    • PENCILS/PENS.  Do not bring pencils or pens.  TWO pencils will be provided to all candidates.

    • BAGS/BOOKS/COMPUTERS.  Please do NOT bring bags, books, papers, computers or unnecessary personal items.  Drexel University is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

    • LATE CANDIDATES. Candidates arriving after 8:45am cannot take the exam. Late candidates do not receive a refund.

    • PARKING. Some street parking is available, but it is very difficult to find.

      We recommend you use the Park America lot located at 3101 Market Street.  All-day parking on Saturday costs $9.00.

    • DIRECTIONS. One week before the exam, you will receive an e-mail containing specific directions to the exact testing location and building address. For a map of Drexel University, see: http://www.drexel.edu/admissions/visit/directions/map-university-city/

    Speaking Exam Times

     

    • PRE or POST SATURDAY. Some IELTS candidates prefer to take their speaking test during the week before or after the Saturday exam. This is permitted by IELTS policy. If you are interested in taking your 15-minute speaking test during the week instead of on Saturday, please e-mail ielts@drexel.edu with your full name, e-mail address, and IELTS candidate number. We will attempt to schedule a date and time convenient for you.
    • REGULAR SATURDAY. Speaking tests are scheduled between 1:00PM and 6:00PM during the afternoon of your Saturday exam date.

       Previewing Results Online

      Preview your test results

      A preview of your IELTS result is usually available online 13 days after your test date, and will remain available for 28 days thereafter. Your official Test Report Form will be mailed to you 13 days after the test. Please note the preview of your IELTS result cannot be used as official confirmation of your test result.

        Disclaimer: The online preview of your test result may not be used as an official score report. IELTS International, the test center and the IELTS Partners give no guarantee as to the accuracy of the preview result, and will not accept any responsibility for an inaccurate score. IELTS International, the test center and the IELTS Partners will not accept any responsibility in the event that your result fails to display due to technical fault.

        Official Results

        1. 13 DAYS. Results are released and mailed to candidates 13 days after the test date. Drexel ELC is not permitted to give out results over the phone or by fax or email.
        2. TEST REPORT FORMS (TRFs). The test fee includes one personal Test Result Form (TRF) and up to five additional score reports for colleges/universities/institutions. You must complete the "Add Recognising Organisations" form as part of your online application in order for these reports to be sent for free.
        3. ADDITIONAL REPORTS.  All additional TRFs are ordered by online credit/debit card payment: online payment.  Scores older than two years are NOT valid--and CANNOT be ordered.
        4. PERSONAL PICK-UP.  Candidates may receive their test results at the Drexel University English language Center, 229 North 33rd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104 during normal business hours.  PASSPORT ID MUST BE PRESENTED UPON PICK-UP.
        5. NON-CANDIDATE PICK-UP. If candidates wish to nominate another person to pick up their results, this needs to be arranged with the test center before the 13th day. The nominated person must bring:

                                      -- an original signed letter from the candidate 
                                          authorizing the pick-up
                                      --
          the nominated person’s own valid passport 
                                          to be used for identification purposes
                                      --
          a photocopy of the candidate’s passport 
                                          (the same passport used on test day)

        6. EOR. Candidates who are not satisfied with their test score results may request to apply for a rescoring of the test (called an “Enquiry on Results”) at the center where the test was taken. This application must be made within six weeks of the test date. The candidate can choose which modules to be re-marked (one, two, three or all of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). There is a fee for this service. If the score on any module that is re-marked is increased, there is a full refund. If there is no change in test scores, no refund is received. The Enquiry on Results process takes up to six weeks from the point the request is made.
