Intensive English Program

The Intensive English program at Drexel English Language Center prepares students for academic study at an American university. The courses offered are designed to meet the academic, personal, and professional needs of students.

The Intensive English program offers six levels of study from beginner to advanced. Placement tests are given during the orientation period to determine a student's level. IEP students are in classes 21 hours a week and five days a week (Monday through Friday).

Core courses are offered in the morning or afternoon:

  • Listening/Speaking classes focus on listening comprehension and spoken communication skills including pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.

  • Reading/Writing classes focus on reading comprehension and written communication skills including grammatical structure, idea development, sentence structure, and paragraph and essay formatting.

Grammar and Special Topics courses are at midday:

  • Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced Grammar classes
  • Special Topic classes focus on specific skills (such as Vocabulary Development or Oral Presentations) or test preparation (TOEFL or IELTS)
    • Test preparation courses are only available to advanced level students.
