Frequently Asked Questions

I have a B.S. in a non-engineering field. Will I still be considered for admission?

Situations like this are handled on a case-by-case basis.  Generally speaking, we look for students with an undergraduate background that covers statistics, calculus, quality control, and a physical materials emphasis.

On occasion, students without an engineering degree can also be provisionally admitted if they have extensive professional experience in a technology intensive organization.

For a more personalized answer, please email a description of your undergraduate coursework and professional background to cmorse@coe.drexel.edu.

Will my application still be considered if my GPA is less than 3.0?

Yes.  A provisional acceptance can be granted for exceptional applicants with a GPA between 2.7-3.0, based upon their professional experience, letters of recommendation, essay, and other materials that the evaluator deems relevant.

Are International students able to pursue the M.S. Engineering Management?

Yes.  Because the Engineering Management Program is 100% online, all students can complete their degree without ever having set foot on campus.  Additionally, the courses are primarily asynchronous, allowing students in multiple time zones to interact according to their own schedule.

What additional application materials must International students submit?

In addition to the general admissions requirements, anyone who has been born outside of the United States is required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have an official score report (indicating a minimum score of 600) sent directly from Educational Testing Service (ETS) to Drexel University before their file is evaluated.  TOEFL scores must be less than two years old to be considered. Information regarding the TOEFL can be obtained by contacting:

Educational Testing Service
Princeton, NJ 08541

In addition, international students are required to list on their application all schools attended, including primary and secondary schools. Along with your application, you must enclose official transcripts (mark sheets and degree certificates) in your native language and in English from all colleges and graduate/ professional schools that you attended. The undergraduate transcript must also be evaluated by World Education Service, Inc. (WES).  Applicants are responsible for contacting WES for evaluation of transcripts:

Are there any on-campus requirements for any of the online graduate Engineering programs?

No. Students are not required to travel to the Drexel University campus for the online graduate engineering programs.

I've never taken an online class before; how does it work?

Engineering Management uses Drexel Learn for all classes. This is an online learning platform that allows for both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Courses are structured into weeklong modules incorporating methods such as required readings, online lectures, discussion boards, quizzes, and tests.

Resources for learning the Drexel Learn system are available from Drexel's Office of Information Resources & Technology. In addition, some professors offer orientation sessions at the beginning of each term.

How long does it take to complete one of Drexel's online Master's degrees in Engineering?

Average times to complete the M.S. range from 2-4 years, but this can vary greatly from student to student. The length of the program depends on how many credits a student transfers into the program and how many courses a student takes per quarter.

Generally, students take a part-time courseload of 1-2 courses per quarter because of family and work commitments. Full-time students may take up to 3 courses per term.

Are there scholarship opportunities available to students in the Engineering Management Program?

Yes.  Although there are not any EGMT-specific scholarships, there are a large number of fellowships available to Drexel students.  We encourage you to read the Fellowship Opportunity webpage carefully to see what applies to you personally.

What is the tuition rate for graduate courses at Drexel?

You can find the current tuition and fees at http://www.drexel.edu/grad/programs/coe/tuition/

Are there any available tuition discounts for employees or members of partnering corporations or associations?
