VMD, M.Bioethics, University of Pennsylvania
Dr. John Rossi joined the department of Community and Health & Prevention (CHP) as an assistant teaching professor for the 2012-2013 academic year. Dr. Rossi had previously held a two year post-doctoral fellow position in CHP, under the mentorship of Michael Yudell, with funding from Pfizer. He holds both a doctorate in veterinary medicine and a masters in bioethics from University of Pennsylvania, and completed a post-doctoral program at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), prior to joining us two years ago.
Dr. Rossi’s role includes serving as the Associate Director of the Program in Public Health Ethics and History, with Dr. Michael Yudell as the Director. He will work closely with Dr. Yudell on University initiatives related to training in the responsible conduct of research, to help Drexel achieve University- wide compliance with NIH and NSF training requirements. He will also help develop Program initiatives in ethics education for our full time students as well as other public health audiences.
Dr. Rossi will be active in graduate and undergraduate teaching, and is tentatively planning to lead a special studies course in "Animal Ethics for Public Health" in the winter term, and "The Philosophical Evolution of Public Health" in the Spring Term. The course in animal ethics will cover many relevant topics in current public health, including the use of animals for research, as well as the public health issues involved in animal-based food production, and animal-human disease environments.
