This guide is designed to provide ste-by-step directions on how to navigate the Self-Selection screens in MyHousing

University Housing recommends all eligible students to review this guide carefully prior to the Self-Selection process opening!

Things to know

  • The user IDs (abc12) of your confirmed roommates
  • Your top building choices
  • Did everyone in your roommate group receive guaranteed housing?
  • Communicate with your roommate group – have you decided on a place to live?
  • If you have a large roommate group (5-7 students), decide what will happen if no more 7-person suites are available in Self-Selection
  • When will you log into Self-Selection? You may do so anytime after your time-ticket until March 8, 2012
  • Identify who in your roommate group has the earliest Time-Ticket

Managing Time Tickets

Time Tickets will be sent to all students eligible for Self-Selection. Time Tickets are sent based on the date of a completed housing application. A Housing Application is considered complete with both a Housing Application and a submitted $200 Housing Deposit.

Assume that Damien, Brendan, and Michael wish to live together, and all have submitted both the Housing Application and Housing Deposit by January 31, 2012. Further, assume that all three have confirmed each other as roommates on Housing Application by February 15, 2012. Time Tickets for these students may be issued as follows:

Student Time Ticket Date Time TIcket Time
Damien March 2, 2012 8 a.m.
Brendan March 4, 2012 4:15 p.m.
Michael March 2, 2012 12 p.m.

In this example, Self-Selection will open for Damien first, then Michael, and then Brendan. Damien will be able to access Self-Selection after 8:00 a.m. on March 2, 2012. He has the earliest time-ticket, followed by Michael, and then Brendan.

Because Damien has the earliest Time Ticket, he will be able to Reserve a space for both Michael and Brendan, because they are all confirmed roommates.

Once Damien has placed Michael and Brendan into a space, Michael and Brendan will not be able to self-select into a space!

Assignments

Filling rooms/suites

Once Room Self-Selection opens, students will be able to opt-into any available bed space. Students do not need to have a complete suite (4 students for a 4-person suite) in order to reserve a room/suite. Single bed reservations will be accepted.

In order to maximize all space on campus and ensure all students have an equitable opportunity to live on-campus, University Housing reserves the right to consolidate suites and/or bedrooms of the same gender which were not filled during the self-selection process. Confirmed roommate pairings will be moved together!

Confirmed Roommates

Are your confirmed roommates still confirmed?

Not all students who applied for housing will receive a Time Ticket, or are guaranteed Housing. All students who were guaranteed housing for 2012-2013 were notified of this status on February 20, 2012 via e-mail.

For example, Alison is guaranteed housing because her housing application and deposit were submitted by January 31, 2012. Tracy is not guaranteed housing because her deposit was submitted on February 3, 2012. Although Tracy and Alison confirmed each other as roommates, Alison will not be able to select Tracy as a roommate during Self-Selection.
