Cap and Gown

To attend your ceremony, it is required that you wear the appropriate academic regalia. Regalia consists of a gown, mortar board cap and hood, which reflect the degree being conferred. Regalia must be obtained from the University Bookstore (Creese Student Center, 32nd and Chestnut Streets, for University City Campus students; Bellet Building, 15th and Race Streets, for Center City Campus students). Your DragonCard is required when making an in-person regalia purchase. If you do not have a DragonCard, a temporary card can be obtained from the DragonCard Office 215.895.6095 or DragonCard@drexel.edu. Buy Your Own

If you are a bachelor's or master's degree candidate, you must purchase your regalia through the University Bookstore. To do so, visit the Bookstore with your student I.D.  Graduation announcements will also be available for purchase. In addition, customized graduation announcements can be purchased. You may also purchase a Class Ring and a Diploma Frame.

For Doctoral Candidates Only

Students receiving a doctoral degree must obtain their regalia through the University Bookstore.  There are several options:

  • Rent your regalia (mortarboard cap, gown, hood and tassel).  Order forms can be completed in the University Bookstore or by phone.
    Rental regalia must be returned immediately following the ceremony to the doctoral robing room or the bookstore.
  • Rent your mortarboard cap gown and tassel and purchase your hood as a keepsake.  Purchases can be made in the University Bookstore. Contact the University Bookstore for additional help.  Rental regalia must be returned immediately following the ceremony to the doctoral robing room or the bookstore.
  • Rent your gown, hood and tassel and purchase your 8 corner tam as a keepsake. Order/purchase form can be completed in the University Bookstore or by phone. Contact the University Bookstore for additional help. Rental regalia must be returned immediately following the ceremony to the doctoral robing room or the bookstore.
  • Purchase a custom Drexel doctoral gown, tam and hood through the University Bookstore. Contact the University Bookstore for additional help you with these purchases on a case-by-case basis.

Any degree candidates that are unable to pick up their regalia on campus, should call the University Bookstore (215.895.2860) to order their regalia by phone and have their regalia shipped. The bookstore will ship the regalia directly to you.

College of Medicine

All students participating in Commencement are required to wear appropriate academic regalia.

Biomedical graduates will wear Keepsake™ regalia, which may be purchased at the Center City Hahnemann Campus bookstore.

Biomedical Science, Pre-medical & Pre-health, and Interdisciplinary Programs regalia will be announced soon. Please check back for updates.

Regalia for M.D. graduates will be distributed at the Queen Lane campus. If you are unable to attend the program and would like to pick up regalia earlier, please contact the Queen Lane Medical Campus bookstore.

School of Law

The rental of your graduation regalia is done through the Drexel Bookstore. Graduates will wear “black tams” rather than mortar boards. Your regalia, including the tam, must be returned following the Commencement Ceremony at The Kimmel Center.
