Announcing the 2012 Week of Writing
April 3, 2012 —
It’s spring and that means it’s time for the annual Week of Writing (WoW), hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of English and Philosophy! Whether you’re a writer, a reader, or a spoken-word spectator, you’re bound to find something inspiring at this year’s festivities, which begin on May 21, 2012 in Behrakis Grand Hall. As always, the weeklong event features panel discussions, reading marathons and open mics. Panel highlights will include “How to Create the Next Great _______,” “Writing for Social Change,” “Social Media and the Representation of the Self,” “Spirits Writing,” and the “Philadelphia Writing Scene.” Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear faculty and student readings, sit in on a poetry slam, and participate in a speed-editing session with local writers and editors!
In conjunction with the Week of Writing, the Department of English and Philosophy is now accepting submissions for both the 2012 Drexel Publishing Group (DPG) Essay Contest, and the Week of Writing Essay Contest. DPG Contest categories include humanities, social sciences, STEM writing, and the graduate student essay. The WoW Essay Contest offers categories in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, humor, and op-ed/persuasion. Prizes will be awarded to the top essays in each category, and winning entries will be considered for publication in The 33rd, the CoAS print anthology used in the Freshman Writing Program.
