We are pleased to recognize the recent grants, publications, presentations, awards and honors of the members of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Awards and Honors

Kelsey Clark, PhD candidate in clinical psychology, received the David H. Barlow Award for Research Excellence from the Renfrew Center Foundation for her poster “Clients and Clinicians Facing Fears: Exposure Therapy for Eating Disorders,” which she will present at the 29th Annual Renfrew Center Foundation Conference for Professionals.

Rebecca Crochiere, psychology doctoral student in the WELL Center, received the Teck-Kah Lim Graduate Student Domestic Travel Subsidy Award for her application, “Integrating Senor Technology and Machine Learning to Target Dietary Lapses.”

Greg Loring-Albright, PhD student in communication, culture and media, created a weeklong scavenger hunt promoting the PAX Unplugged gaming conference.

Marlin Killen, PhD, teaching professor of psychology, was nominated as a Drexel MVP (Most Valuable Professor) by a member of the women's basketball team.

Christine Maguth Nezu, PhD, ABPP, professor of psychology, and Arthur Nezu, PhD, DHL, ABPP, Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, presented their work on a psychosocial intervention they co-developed, Problem-Solving Therapy, to psychologists from several universities in South Korea.

Arthur Nezu, PhD, DHL, ABPP, Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, was named a subject matter expert for PsychHub, a nonprofit foundation co-founded by former congressman Patrick Kennedy. The purpose of this foundation is to disseminate information about evidenced-based mental health interventions to the public.

Mimi Sheller, PhD, professor of sociology and director of the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy, co-produced and appeared in “Fly Me to the Moon,” a feature documentary film directed by Esther Figueroa that premiered at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, in November.

Britt Evans, PhD student in psychology, was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer article “Drexel Study Uses Video Conferencing at Dinnertime to Help Parents Get Their Kids to Eat Healthier” for her work on Project Picnic.

Ana Ferariu, BS mathematics ’20, and her sister Maria Ferariu were profiled in the Philadelphia Inquirer story “Drexel’s Ana and Maria Ferariu Look to Make Their Mark a Long Way From Romania | College Basketball Preview.”

Presentations

Evan Forman, PhD, professor of psychology, gave an invited address to at the annual meeting of the American Society of Nutrition on “Promising Behavioral and Technological Innovations in the Treatment of Obesity.”

Pamela Geller, PhD, associate professor of psychology, chaired the symposium, “Improving Parental Psychosocial Functioning in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit” at the Marcè of North America’s biennial conference on Perinatal Mental Health in Chapel Hill. She also co-authored the four presentations that were included in the symposium.

Emmanuel Koku, PhD, professor of sociology, presented “Stigma, HIV Testing and Disclosure Among African Immigrants in the USA: A Social Network Analysis,” at the eighth annual ASA Sociology of Development Conference at Notre Dame University.

Mimi Sheller, PhD, professor of sociology and director of the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy, gave the keynote address for “Addressing Cycles of Inequality: A Workshop on Mobility Justice” hosted by the National Center for Sustainable Transportation, the UC Davis Institute for Transportation Studies and the UC Davis Feminist Research Institute. Alejandro Tinoco, PhD student in communication, culture and media, also attended the event with travel funding from UC Davis.

Clinical psychology doctoral students Jeanne McPhee, Michael Silverstein, and Chandler Puhy worked with students at Temple and Penn to coordinate an informative panel for students from all three universities to learn about careers in psychology private practice. The group coordinated with local psychologists of varied experiences to give students a helpful perspective on those career paths.

Several faculty members in the Department of Sociology presented at the annual meeting of the Society for the Social Studies of Science in New Orleans. Kelly Joyce, PhD, professor of sociology, and Diane Sicotte, PhD, professor of sociology, presented “Fossil Fuel Infrastructure: Labor, Technology, and Expertise;” Kelly Underman, PhD, assistant professor of sociology, organized and presented on the panel “Rethinking the Health Professions in the 21st Century;” and Susan Bell, PhD, presented “Doing Expertise in Transnational Hospital Settings.”

Publications

Pamela Geller, PhD, associate professor of psychology, co-authored “Infertility and Assisted Reproduction: Psychosocial Aspects,” published in the Encyclopedia of Behavioral Medicine, Springer. She and Victoria Grunberg, PhD student in clinical psychology, also co-authored “Utilization of NICU Infant Medical Indices to Classify Parental Risk for Stress and Family Burden” in the Journal of Pediatric Health Care.
