On February 18, Kathleen Volk Miller delivered the Winter English Faculty Research Seminar address. Her talk,“The Lit Mag: Get Published in Them; Teach from Them—Here’s How and Why,” shared her 20 years of experience in the literary magazine industry. Her insider’s look at the history, work and mechanics of the literary magazine was an incisive and invaluable guide for anyone interested in literary publication- both scholars and writers. Her range in the field is truly impressive: she is co-editor of the Painted Bride Quarterly, recently co=edited a Humor anthology for Oxford University Press and is Director of the Graduate Program in Publishing. She has written for Salon, New York Times, Family Circle, and was a weekly contributor to Philadelphia Magazine’s news blog and is currently working on “Ramp Agent Parenting,” an essayistic memoir/parenting book a la “Tiger Mother.” Professor Volk Miller is is one of the reasons that being involved with English at Drexel is a special and unique experience.
